The most delicious gelato in Florence is Edoardo’s, right under the Duomo. It stands out against the countless old-school gelatarias in Italy with modern decor and most importantly, gelato that is kept under wraps (or, metal lids), a sign of a true gelato mastery. Gelato is kept freshest this way and as tempting as gelato piled high in cabinet windows may look, it is the gelato that you can’t see that is of the highest quality.
Fresh, original flavours shook up my usual gelato routine and I settled for one scoop of plum gelato and one scoop of Zabaglione, which is white wine and egg white. Incredibly, it tasted exactly like these two flavours simultaneously and the result is delicious.
Plus, you can feel less guilty about eating Edoardo’s gelato as it is free from additives, preservatives, artificial colours, and GMO ingredients.
