As with everything in New York, the seasons here are intense. Nowhere displays this better than Central Park, the city’s green lung which throughout the year moves from green to gold, to brown & white, and finally to the colours of spring – including a lot of pink! Cherry blossoms and magnolias sprinkle Central Park with shades of pale pink at the start of spring, usually around mid-April.
We had just moved to New York City from Australia, and we spent our first morning in the city admiring the first cherry blossoms in Central Park. We saw the most between the Mall and East Drive in line with 68th Street, just after you pass under the Willowdene Bridge, near Bethesda Fountain and many more on Cherry Hill, which overlooks the lake. A week later, I returned to Central Park for peak bloom, around the Reservoir. It was even more intense during peak bloom!
PS. In Photos is a new series I’ve started on the blog just for sharing photos from a particular time or place. For more useful guides and tips about visiting New York City, check out my New York City Travel Guide and my neighbourhood guides for West Village and SoHo.
Have you been to Central Park during Cherry Blossom Season? Or have you seen them anywhere else? Let me know what you think in the comments!
