This month’s recap will be very brief, because I was only in New York City for two weeks and they were very low key! I spent the second half of July in Greece, to celebrate a friend’s wedding and spend some time in the Cyclades. More on that soon.
New York in July is very hot and sticky, and I can see why most New Yorkers spend every weekend out of the city and in the Hamptons or somewhere upstate. You need to book quite early in the year for the Hamptons, so if we can’t get out there for a weekend in August or early September, I’ll make sure to book early for next year! I’m looking for day trips and one-nighters out of New York that are accessible by train, please let me know if you have any recommendations!
4th of July
We were in town for 4th of July, American’s independence day, so we celebrated by going to Brooklyn neighbourhood Red Hook for lobster rolls. Red Hook Lobster Pound was worth the trek out to Red Hook, but once we were done we realised there wasn’t much else to do in the neighbourhood, and got a very slow (and expensive) Uber to Williamsburg for the rest of the afternoon.

Reading
I’ve spent most of July reading George Eliot’s colossal Middlemarch, which I really enjoyed. When I was in Greece, I read The Colossus of Maroussi by Henry Miller, which documents his time in Greece.
