I love Athens. It’s often overlooked by travellers heading to the Greek islands, but there are so many reasons to spend at least two days in Athens either side of your island hopping. The capital of Greece is teeming with life, and yet retains a strong sense of its ancient history. It’s a singularly spectacular city, with vibrant neighbourhoods, delicious food and, of course, incredible historic sights.
I’ve flown in & out of Athens international airport a few times now, and highly recommend it if you’re travelling internationally – it’s modern, functional & connected to the city by the relatively new subway system, which makes it very convenient. If you’re heading to Greece, there’s every reason to make a little bit of time for Athens.
