I’ve squeezed January & February into this super late recap, in a bid to get on the right track on 2015. Starting the Sunday Stories series has been amazing for appreciating the opportunities & experiences I’ve had, but the monthly recap takes a broader view. I actually haven’t visited any new cities in the last two months, due to the move, but that will change soon!
Just because I’ve had a couple of months without new travel destinations, doesn’t mean I’ve been short on new experiences – in my new city, or in other destinations I’ve visited before!
Destinations
Melbourne, Bribie Island, Gold Coast, Brisbane
Favourite destination
My new hometown – Melbourne!
highlights
- making new friends in melbourne
- dad visiting
-
going home for the weekend to watch my boyfriend graduate from university
-
Having a really great new cafe right near my apartment. An essential when you work from home.
challenges
- I moved out of home, in with my boyfriend and interstate in one fell swoop. It’s been amazing, but more difficult than I expected. See Travelling vs. Moving
-
Melbourne’s idea of “summer” has me a little terrified about winter!
favourite finds
The amazing ricotta hotcake at Kettle Black, a café in South Melbourne
MeetUp – Go online & join groups in your city, based on your hobbies, background, or profession i.e. Whether you’re looking for fellow expats, wanting to practice your French with native speakers, looking for girlfriends to go to brunch with, friends to hike with or new people to dine out with, MeetUp has hundreds of groups.
I signed up when I moved to Melbourne, because I work from home so I have limited opportunities to make friends. I’ve met a huge variety of people through MeetUp, some of whom have become great friends. Would be lost without it!
what travel taught me
- I am not so good at committing to things, and that has to change
