There is no shortage of beautiful beaches in Australia, especially in the steamy Queensland tropics. A short ferry ride from Townsville, our quick visit to Magnetic Island was relaxing, easy and affordable. During my one-week trip through the Whitsundays and Tropical North Queensland, we had an overnight stop in Townsville.
Townsville is the largest city in north Queensland and I was surprised by how beautiful it was. My boyfriend is from Townsville, and I’d love to return for a few days with him and see more of the city. As it was, we had an overnight stay there to break up the long bus trip from Airlie Beach to Cairns.
We only had the evening in the city, so we went to the ferry and before we knew it, we were on Magnetic Island. There are several beaches, bays and little townships on Magnetic Island, but we chose Horseshoe Bay because it is beautiful, but easily accessible by bus.
The bus picked us up from the ferry terminal and dropped us right at the beach, for only a few dollars. We had the beach pretty much to ourselves, and we watched the sunset before heading to the fish & chip shop for dinner.
What’s your favourite island for escaping the crowds?

Thank you Vera! It’s a very special place 🙂
That all seems quite convenient. The photos you captured are beautiful,I would have to say that my favorite beach’s would have to be in the Bahamas. The water and sand there are so beautiful, and the weather’s always fantastic.
Hey Alexandria, so sorry it’s taken so long for me to reply! Thank you so much. That’s good to know – in Australia, I don’t hear too much about the Caribbean, so thats a useful tip! 🙂
