Monterosso: The best beach in Cinque Terre

Monterosso al Mare is one of my favourite Cinque Terre villages, for having the best beach. We had lunch on the deck of Nuovo Bar Eden, overlooking one of the private beaches.  The fact that you can charge people for a beach seems so strange to me – I know that wouldn’t go down well in Australia. How can anyone set up shop and own the beach? Still, it made for a stunning view.

The stretches of soft sand and sparkling turquoise water makes it perfect for beachlovers, with a many manicured private beaches, as well as one free beach. We’d already been to Opera Plage, one of the private beach clubs in Nice, so as we were only going for a short swim we opted for the free beach in Monterosso. It was squishy on the beach, so while Chloe had an ice cream I found some elbow room in the water.

  1. I’m from California and charging for beaches wouldn’t go over well there, either! That pasta looks great- I’m currently in Rome and feel lucky I can eat pasta every day!

    1. Haha yeah coming from the big, spacious beaches in Queensland it was a bit of a change. Yum! I was recently in Rome and had the best pizza. If you like gelato make sure you go to San Crispino, a local recommended it as the best in Rome – have to agree! It’s near the Trevi Fountain 🙂
