Where to eat & drink in Hobart

One of the most important parts of any trip to Hobart is deciding where to eat and drink. Tasmania’s capital is one of Australia’s best foodie destinations, despite it’s smalls size. Tasmania has built its reputation as a foodie destination on the back of hardworking salmon & oyster industries, distilleries and wineries, and countless producers, chefs and restauranteurs who bring their produce to life. Where … Continue reading Where to eat & drink in Hobart

Stay in Hobart: Hadley’s Orient Hotel

I spent the weekend in Hobart with my boyfriend, which was the first time either of us had ever travelled to Australia’s southernmost state, Tasmania. I was so blown away by how beautiful this part of Australia is, I am already dreaming and scheming of ways to return. I’ll be posting more details of our trip this week, but I wanted to start by sharing our experience at … Continue reading Stay in Hobart: Hadley’s Orient Hotel

Riomaggiore: Cinque Terre’s most colourful village

Cinque Terre is famous for it’s brightly-coloured buildings, but Riomaggiore takes the (rainbow) cake. The punchy colour scheme in Vernazza, the vivid blue sea and the colour-coordinated umbrellas in Monterosso and the popping pastels in Manarola are no match for the colours of Riomaggiore. Shades of sunshine yellow, bright orange and watermelon pink punctuated by forest-green shutters shine even brighter against the brilliant blue sky.  Bright bunting strung across … Continue reading Riomaggiore: Cinque Terre’s most colourful village

Rome Itinerary

Why I failed to fall in love with Rome

It’s one of the world’s most dreamed about destinations, but Rome & I have never quite seen eye to eye. Despite the promises of la dolce vita, I find it hard to relax in Rome. I imagined myself strolling through sun-dappled piazzas with a gelato in hand as vespas whizz by. I daydreamed about stumbling along remnants of ancient history around every corner. I’ve visited … Continue reading Why I failed to fall in love with Rome

A Quick Guide to Eating in Avignon

Avignon, the capital of Provence, is full of local specialties and quirks that jumped out at sorbet stands, in restaurant menus and in the Les Halles markets – the perfect place for a wandering foodie to spend a few days. If my photos are anything to go by, most of my time in Avignon was spent eating, at the Parc des Rocher Doms or being lost. … Continue reading A Quick Guide to Eating in Avignon

Hipmunk City Love: Walk through the history of Amsterdam

Amsterdam is often called an open-air museum, because glimpses of its history from the city’s inception all the way to modern-day marvels can be found around town – if you know where to look. Stroll through Amsterdam’s fascinating, if tumultuous, history and witness the results of a city nearly one thousand years in the making. If you can find a hotel in Amsterdam near the centre of … Continue reading Hipmunk City Love: Walk through the history of Amsterdam

Hipmunk City Love: Best Boutique Hotels in Florence

I love staying in accommodation with a difference, and unless you’re on a million-dollar luxury budget, I think the best way to stay in an authentic, memorable place is to look for a boutique hotel or B&B. With less rooms, no corridor mazes, and much more local flavour, staying somewhere a little different will make the moments spent inside your room just as memorable as … Continue reading Hipmunk City Love: Best Boutique Hotels in Florence

A Day Trip to Hamilton Island

When my best friend and I spent a week exploring Queensland‘s beautiful tropics, Hamilton Island was a firm must-see destination on our list. One of the few inhabited islands in the Whitsundays archipelago, Hamilton Island was a little out of our price range to stay on, so we stayed in a backpackers in Airlie Beach on the mainland. We visited Hamilton Island & Whitsunday Island … Continue reading A Day Trip to Hamilton Island
