West Village is one of my favourite neighbourhoods for photography in New York City. With plenty of quiet, tree-lined streets with historic brownstones and independent cafes, bars and boutiques, it has a lively neighbourhood atmosphere while also offering a respite from the madness of New York City. West Village is the western section of Greenwich Village, and you can really feel the different in atmosphere once you cross 6th Avenue and leave the rest of Greenwich Village behind.
I love photographing the beautiful brownstones in the neighbourhood, as well as the sidewalk cafe scene which often sees people spilling out on the streets. It’s a very photogenic neighbourhood, and one of the best for wandering without much of a plan or direction. My favourite restaurant in the neighbourhood is Minetta Tavern, I love Murray’s Cheese and the adjoining wine & cheese bar, and Comedy Cellar is still one of my favourite ways to while away an evening in New York City.

In Photos is a series I started on The Wanderbug as a place to share photos, without necessarily needing a story or guide to go along with it. Sometimes, a little visual inspiration is all you need!
