Crazy beautiful flamenco in Barcelona

Flamenco is not for the faint hearted. The dancers are extremely passionate, talented and telling a story all at once.

We drove up to Port Olimpic for dinner and a flamenco show. Their heavy, traditional costumes didn’t stop them from dancing so hard I thought they were going to stomp holes in the stage but their faces fierce with concentration and beaded with sweat betrayed what hard work it was. This didn’t detract from the performance though because it only enhanced the passion of the story.  It was borne from a culture so different from my own and it wasn’t primped and polished to have a broad, bland appeal to tourists. It wasn’t something you sat down and were delighted by because it was easy. It was strange and unusual and absolutely brilliant. In my opinion, it also totally trumped the Moulin Rouge.
