Aghia Kiriaki Milos

The Best Beaches in Milos, Greece (+ Map)

The island of Milos has some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece, which is no small feat in a country with 227 islands and more than 13,800 km of coastline. Milos has 70 beaches, which is the most beaches of any island in the Cyclades. The best beaches in Milos include Sarakiniko, Agia Kiriaki, Plathiena, Paleochori, and what makes Milos beaches so special is that the beaches are so diverse, and so different from one another. It’s definitely one of the best beach destinations in Greece!

I spent five days in Milos, and was blown away by how beautiful and unique the beaches are – the island has the best beaches of any Greek island I’ve visited! Check out on my post about where to stay in Milos for tips on the best locations for staying close to the beach.

Where are the best beaches in Milos?

You’ll notice that these beaches are on the eastern half of Milos – this is because the western half of Milos is only accessible with a 4WD. Milos is huge, so there is so much to see just on the eastern half of the island that you’ll be busy for a week!

Agia Kiriaki Beach

Agia Kiriaki doesn’t get as much fanfare as Sarakiniko, Firiplaka and Firopotamus, but I think it’s the best beach in Milos. The water is usually calm and unbelievably crystal clear. The red rock of the surrounding hills contrasts beautifully with the water. Agia Kiriaki is the most beautiful beach in Milos, in my opinion, and is surprisingly crowd-free given it’s location close to Plaka.

Plathiena Beach

The dreamy blue hues of the water at Plathiena make it one of the most beautiful beaches in Milos. On the northern side of Milos, not too far from Plaka, Plathiena is unusually quiet considering how lovely it is. There is a small restaurant & bar there, and some beach chairs, but when we visited we stuck to the sand. Once you get a few feet into the water, the sand gives ways to quite sharp rocks, so pack your reef shoes if you have them.

Sarakiniko Beach

The most striking beach on Milos, and one of the most Instagrammed beaches in all of Greece, Sarakiniko has to be seen to be believed. Unlike the other beautiful beaches in Milos, Sarakiniko is unique because of it’s chalky, lunar-like landscapes. The weird and wonderful white cliffs are half the appeal!

Firopotamos Beach

The pink cliffs and electric blue ocean make Firopotamos one of the most beautiful beaches in Milos. This beach is inside a small bay, so it’s protected from the strong Milos winds. There’s a small canteen here, and you can rent beach bean bags or chairs. You can find a place to park above the beach, along the edges of the cliff, and there are some beautiful ancient ruins overlooking the water.

Paleochori Beach

One of the most popular beaches in Milos, Paleochori is a beautiful, wide beach with calm water and plenty of beach facilities. There are two beach clubs to choose from, which makes it one of the best beaches for spending a day lazing around in the sun.

Papafragas Beach

Famous for the Papafragas cliffs and caves, this beach is a little more difficult to access, and should only be visited in good conditions. It was super windy (and choppy) the day we visited, so we didn’t climb down to the beach at Papafragas, but it’s one of the prettiest sights in Milos.

Pollonia Beach

Pollonia is a popular fishing village with some of the best restaurants in Milos, so it makes a great place to stay if you want to stay by the beach (in contrast, Adamas is a port and Plaka is inland). Pollonia Beach has one of the prettiest settings in Milos, inside a quaint harbor that is dotted with colourful, traditional fishing boats, and has a backdrop of the rugged mountains of Kimolos. Pollonia beach is such an easy place to spend the day, because it’s in the heart of town and is backed by a string of restaurants, bakeries and bars, not to mention accommodation if you choose to stay here (we did!).
