Brunch in Melbourne: Two birds, One stone

Brunch is my favourite meal because it combines the frivolity of a fancy breakfast (no room for sensible-shoes sandwiches) with the generous servings of a hearty lunch. Essentially, larger doses of delicious-but-not-neccessarily nutritious food enjoyed in no particular hurry at all. In an ideal world, every day would begin with a leisurely brunch.

I can’t be sure, but I have a suspicion that one of my favourite Melbourne cafes is named after the glorious meal itself – Two Birds, One Stone.

I’d been eating in Melbourne all weekend – it seems any cafe in Melbourne is a tough act to follow. After being rendered literally speechless after finding the best pork belly roll I’ve ever eaten in a side alley the day before, I was tough to impress.

And then they let me eat what was essentially sweet french toast and panna cotta for breakfast. What more could a girl want?

The cafe is large and airy and not surprisingly, very busy. We eventually got a spot around the communal table, the prime position for people watching over a coffee.

David got the Smashed Avocado, his favourite breakfast and a trend sweeping Melbournian menus across the city. His local cafe near his uni on the Gold Coast has an owner originally from Melbourne, who is responsible for his Smashed Avocado habit. Smashed Avocado is served everywhere in Melbourne, so I’m surprised I managed to get him on the plane home.

    1. With a name like Monsieur Truffle it just sounds delicious already! I am a huge fan of Croque Monsieurs, I will have to hunt it down next time I’m in Melbourne. Thanks for sharing 🙂
