The Beauty of Bath
Strolling around Bath is like wandering through a three dimensional post card. Cute, crumbly and sleepy, a peaceful overnight stop there provides a welcome reprieve from the exciting but tiring hustle and bustle of London. The entire city is a UNESCO World Heritage Listed Site and our overnight stay in Bath was the highlight of my trip to the UK. Charming Pulteney Bridge is the … Continue reading The Beauty of Bath
Crazy beautiful flamenco in Barcelona
Flamenco is not for the faint hearted. The dancers are extremely passionate, talented and telling a story all at once. We drove up to Port Olimpic for dinner and a flamenco show. Their heavy, traditional costumes didn’t stop them from dancing so hard I thought they were going to stomp holes in the stage but their faces fierce with concentration and beaded with sweat betrayed … Continue reading Crazy beautiful flamenco in Barcelona

Postcards from Charles Bridge, Prague
It was this  bridge that incited an urge to go to Prague. Well, that and The Illusionist.  It is just as beautiful in person and is flanked by my favourite marble people in the world. Sadly, it’s rarely empty enough to get a photo without the crowds, like the photo I saw that made me want to come here in the first place. Continue reading Postcards from Charles Bridge, Prague

Attempting Vienna’s biggest schnitzel at Figmuller
Nothing quite says Austria like a schnitzel bigger than your plate. The Plan: Eat a lunch at Figmuller that was so big that we won’t need dinner (Reality: Going out for ribs for dinner later anyway) I have never been so close to exploding. Figlmuller is a restaurant famous for it’s giant schnitzel and traditional Austrian cuisine. I’ve heard its often packed with tourist but … Continue reading Attempting Vienna’s biggest schnitzel at Figmuller

Venice: Home of the Masquerade
If you’re going to Venice, you’ll need to leave room in your suitcase and your wallet for a Venetian Carnivale mask (or twelve). You can buy them from street vendors but the most beautiful ones are in shops dotted around Venice. I have never seen so much beauty in one place. These small decorative porcelain masks were hanging on the door of a mask shop … Continue reading Venice: Home of the Masquerade

St Mark’s Meringues
St Mark’s Basilica in Venice is one of my favourite buildings because it balances decadence and delicateness. It’s not as overbearing as some other iconic architecture. For example, I thought St Peter’s in Rome too overbearing and not particularly beautiful. Rome is a very masculine city and this is reflected in their architecture. Everything there seems to strives for glory rather than beauty. Venice is … Continue reading St Mark’s Meringues

Postcard from St Vitus’ Cathedral, Prague
Many mistake this gothic icon towering over the Prague skyline as Prague Castle, but St Vitus Cathedral is an entity all of its own – six centuries in the making. Entry is free to the first part but you will need a ticket for full access. For those of you who can’t yet speak Czech, you can find St Vitus in Prague 1, in the … Continue reading Postcard from St Vitus’ Cathedral, Prague

Picture Perfect Parisians
A stylish gentleman and his equally chic elderly mother stroll the streets in Passy, Paris‘ well-heeled 16th arrondissement. Winter in Paris and well dressed strangers, is there anything better? Continue reading Picture Perfect Parisians

Best view over Florence: Piazzale Michelangelo
Florence in the morning is magical. It sounds like an exaggeration but there is no other word for it. The incredible view from Piazzale Michelangiolo was like looking across a kingdom from a fairytale. This was taken in the middle of winter so despite the city looking like it is basking in warm sunlight, it was actually freezing. Even in the middle of winter it … Continue reading Best view over Florence: Piazzale Michelangelo

Weeping Lion in Lucerne
I was forewarned that this monument to the slain Swiss soldiers who were killed in France was deeply moving, and that Mark Twain had called it “the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world.” I still wasn’t prepared for how heartwrenching it was. It’s a very short walk from the centre of town and is in a beautiful clearing, definitely worth a … Continue reading Weeping Lion in Lucerne
